こんにちは英太郎です。
新年、正月行事などの説明を英語で説明してみたいと思います。
日本はたいへん独特な文化があり、この正月（新年）には
色々な形で今もなを習慣が受け継がれています。
他の国には無い習慣を説明するのって骨が折れますね。
私はこんな感じで話してみました。

やぁアンディHappy New Year! 明けましておめでとう
Hi Andy. Happy New Year!
“Akemashite Omedetou Kotoshimo Yoroshiku”
新年があなたとあなたのご家族にとって実り多きもので
（楽しい一年で）ありますように。
May the New Year be prosperous and filled with joy
for you and your family.

日本語はどういう意味だい？
What do you mean by the Japanese phrase?
ニュアンス的にはHappy New Yearと同じだよ。新年を迎える事が
できてお互い良かったね。今年もよろしくねと言う意味だよ。
Akemashite Omedetou means as same nuance as Happy New Year.
Kotoshimo Yoroshiku means I look forward to another great
year with you.
日本では昨年は有難う、今年も昨年同様よろしくねと言う感じで言うんだよ。
In Japanese, we say thank you for the past year and
look forward to another great year with you.
アンディ:目上の方や仕事場などでも同じ言い方をするのかい？
Andy, Do you use same phrase to elderly people and people in seniority a
positions at business?
そうだね。一緒だよ。ただ自分にとってとても大切な方や、社会的にすごく
地位のある方にはもう少しちゃんとした言葉も使うんだ。
Yes, Andy we usually do, but for people with extreme importance
and/or social nobility or higher ranking status, people may add
further expressions of gratitude by using higher form of Japanese.
それから手紙を贈る時は話す時と少し言い回しが違うかな。
And, there is a little difference in spoken and written
たとえば仕事でクライアントに手紙を贈るときは、もう少し昔の日本語、
難しい漢字が沢山ある日本語を使ったりするから、カードからは日本の
歴史みたいなものを感じるかもしれないね。また正月に出すご挨拶の
手紙の事を年賀状と言うんだ。
For example, if you send the new year’s card to your
business client, we use more difficult kanji phrase.
Because of the use of kanji, one might feel some Japanese
traditional lookfrom those cards. New years card,
we call it as Nengajou in Japanese.

一番使われている言葉は謹賀新年と賀正と言う言葉だよ。
手紙の冒頭に書く言葉で両方ともHappy new year って意味なんだ。
Most popular Kanji Greeting in Nengajou is Kinga Shinnen
or Gashou which we write at beginning of the messages.
Both Kinga Shinnen and Gashou means Happy New Year.
これらはとっても有名なフレーズだけど手紙の中だけで使われているよ。
でも会話では使わないかな。「ハイ！謹賀新年！」って言うのは可笑しい言い方だからね。
まぁあえて私は面白いから友達に使ったりするけど。
Those Kinga and Gashou words are very popular phrase in Nengajou, but not
using in conversation. It sounds awkward if you say “HI Kinga Shinnen!”
to verbally someone.Since its awkward to use Kinga phrase in conversation,
I sometime use it to my friends to get some laughs.
それと
ビジネスメールの年賀状は基本形は決まっていて年賀状は新年の
お祝いの賀詞（がし）を使用しご挨拶やお礼の祝辞、相手の幸福を
祈る言葉を添え、あなたと末永く仲良くおつきあいしたいですと
言う気持ちをこめて書きます。
Also, in Japanese business writing Nengajou, there is a few rules.
We have to use some phrase in Nengajou which are Japanese seasonal
words thankful feeling to others, wish someone’s happiness and to
express the wishes for a good and long-lasting friendship with that person.
